The Pend Oreille River runs through the entirety of Pend Oreille County, from it’s southern most point which borders the state of Idaho all the way to it northern neighboring border with Canada, there is no shortage of nature and wildlife to be explored.

For the adventurous type, the fresh water of the Pend Oreille river and surrounding lakes offer numerous opportunities for boating, jet skiing, wake boarding and water skiing.

If you would prefer to relax, there are plenty of beaches along the shores allowing for a fun filled family picnics or laying out in the sun and working on the tan. Don’t forget to bring along a fishing pole, the rivers and lakes are well known for their award winning fishing spots.

The rugged landscape of the Pend Oreille River Valley offer numerous walking, hiking, and biking trails for your enjoyment.

Pend Oreille in the Winter

Winter in Pend Oreille is simply majestic and during those winter months you’ll find that there is no shortage of fun to be had. Travelers come from all around to enjoy snowmobiling, down hill and cross county skiing, snow shoeing and ice fishing.  Pend Oreille is home to the 49 North ski resort and within driving distance to Schweitzer and Mt Spokane.

The International Selkirk Loop traverses the entire county of Pend Oreille and features some of the most beautiful country in the western United States.  When you complete the scenic loop you’ll find that you’ve passed through two states (Washington and Idaho) and two countries (US and Canada). Along the way you’re sure to see ample wildlife, majestic mountains, deep rivers and lakes and of course towering forests.

Bird Watching – Vacationers have been known to come from around the world to view the large variety of birds in the area. Tundra swans, bald eagles, and blue herons are just a few of species that call Pend Oreille, home. Tours can be arranged when your in the area.

Camping –  Escaping to the great outdoors is easy when your in the Pend Oreille River Valley and if camping is an adventure that excites you, well, there are plenty camp grounds that await your arrival.
