The Pend-Oreille River Valley stretches from the Lake Pend Oreille in Sandpoint Idaho to the Canadian border and beyond. The majority of the Pend Oreille River passes through Pend-Oreille County.
Pend Oreille County is located in north-eastern Washington. Towns located in the county of Pend Oreille include, Newport, Cusick, Usk, Ione, Metaline, Metaline Falls and the Kalispel Tribe of Indians.
Newport is a city in, and the county seat of, Pend Oreille County, Washington. The current population is 2,116. The city of Newport sits at an elevation is 2250′ and is the southern most city in Pend Oreille County and shares a border with the state of Idaho and the city of Oldtown (located in Idaho).
Diamond Lake is a small community located on and around the shores of Diamond Lake. The area is an extension of the city of Newport. Diamond Lake shares resources and is in the Newport School District.
Cusick & Usk
North of of Newport, following the State Route 20 you’ll find the towns of Cusick and Usk. The two small towns are located in the Kalispel Valley. Cusick has a total population of 206. Usk is an unincorporated area along the Pend-Oreille River 2 miles southeast of Cusick.
Continuing north on State Route 20 you’ll find the city of Ione. Ione has a total population approx 500 residents. The town of Ione is located on the shores of the Pend Oreille River.
Metaline & Metaline Falls
Metaline & Metaline Falls are situated 31 miles south of the Canadian Border and are the northern most towns in Pend Oreille County. The Metaline’s were featured in the Kevin Costner film entitled “The Postman.”
